That’s why I created this Halloween bucket list. It’s filled with simple, fun ideas that the whole family can enjoy. There is a link at the end of this post for a printable version of the Halloween bucket list.
Why Use a Bucket List
Using a bucket list is a great way to make sure you have fun during Halloween. It helps you focus on what you want to do together as a family. When you have a list, you can pick activities that everyone will enjoy. It also gives you something to look forward to all month long.
Plus, checking off activities is so satisfying. It feels great to see what you have accomplished together. You get to bond with your family over shared experiences and create memories.
Halloween Bucket List Activities
1. Carve or Paint Pumpkins
One of our favorite traditions is carving pumpkins. If your kids are too young for carving, painting pumpkins is a fun alternative. Let them get creative with designs and colors.
2. Visit a Pumpkin Farm
Make a day of it by visiting a local pumpkin farm. You can pick your pumpkins, some even offer hayrides, and maybe even enjoy a corn maze.
3. Family Halloween Movie Night
Grab some popcorn, cozy blankets, and pick a few Halloween movies to watch together. You can choose family-friendly classics like Hocus Pocus or something a little spookier depending on your kids’ ages.
4. Decorate the House with Halloween Decorations
Turn your home into a Halloween wonderland. Get the kids involved in decorating the house with spooky lights, cobwebs, and pumpkins.
5. Plan Halloween Costumes
Start planning your Halloween costumes early. Whether you’re doing a family theme or letting each person pick their own, it’s always fun to brainstorm ideas together.
6. Go Trick-or-Treating
Of course, trick-or-treating is a must. Plan out your route, and make sure to bring a flashlight for safety.
7. Halloween-Themed Scavenger Hunt
Set up a Halloween scavenger hunt around your house or yard.
8. Make Halloween Crafts
Spend some time getting crafty with your kids. You can make a paper pumpkin person craft, a spooky ghost suncatcher, or even decorate trick-or-treat bags.
9. Read Halloween Books
Snuggle up and read some Halloween-themed books together. Whether it’s spooky stories or silly tales, it’s a fun way to wind down and get in the Halloween mood. My kids like Pete the Cat: Trick or Pete.
10. Tell Ghost Stories
When it’s dark out, gather around and tell some ghost stories. You can keep it light and funny for younger kids or add a little spooky twist for older ones.
11. Play Halloween-Themed Games
Plan a few Halloween-themed games like pumpkin bowling, bobbing for apples, or “Pin the Hat on the Witch”.
12. Host a Costume Fashion Show
Let your kids show off their costumes by hosting a mini fashion show for friends or family. You can even give out small prizes for categories like “scariest” or “funniest.”
13. Eat Candy Corn
What’s Halloween without candy corn? Make sure to include this classic treat on your list. You can snack on it or use it to decorate cupcakes and other treats.
14. Wear Halloween-Themed Clothing
Have fun wearing Halloween-themed clothes throughout October. Whether it’s spooky T-shirts, festive socks, or orange PJs, it’s a simple way to keep the Halloween spirit going.
15. Boo Your Neighbors
“Booing” your neighbors is a fun Halloween tradition. Put together a small treat bag or Halloween gift, leave it on their porch with a note, and sneak away before they see you.
16. Bake Halloween-Themed Treats
Get into the kitchen and bake some Halloween goodies together. You can make cupcakes, cookies, or even spooky-shaped sandwiches. Let the kids help with decorating.
17. Attend or Host a Halloween Party
If your family loves to socialize, attend or host a Halloween party. You can play games, dress up, and enjoy spooky fun with friends and family.

Many towns have Halloween festivals or events. Check your local area for a fall festival or Halloween celebration that the whole family can attend.
